Merlin K. Wirt September 20, 1930 - June 30, 2005

      Merlin "Mick" K. Wirt, 74, of rural Burlington, died Thursday, June 30, 2005 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

      Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. The Rev. Dennis Tevis will officiate. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis with the Veterans Honor Guard of VFW Posts 9162 and 10102, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League and AMVETS Post 29 will conduct military rites. Visitation will be today with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

      Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mike Wirt of Burlington, Nicky Wirt of Plano, Texas, Joe White of Burlington; three daughters, Martha White of Burlington, Marilyn Hatley of Statesville, N.C., Angela Nixon of Statesville, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
