Merna Derby

Merna Derby, age 76, of Brookfield, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at University Hospital in Columbia.

A visitation will begin Friday, January 15, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 in the evening. A celebration of life will be Sunday, January 17, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Rubio Community Center in Rubio, Iowa. Burial will be in Sandy Hook Cemetery in Brighton, Iowa

Merna Jean, daughter of Clarence and Alice (Wieneke) Lowe, was born May 6. 1939 in Brighton, Iowa. On June 7, 1958, she married Jerry Derby.

Merna worked in the produce department at Wal-Mart in Brookfield.

Survivors include one son, Michael Derby of Springfield; one daughter, Michelle Drake and husband, Paul of Bucklin; two grandchildren, Christopher Drake and wife, Beth of Elmer and Erin Drake and husband, Aaron Cheek of Macon; two great-grandchildren, Sara and Galahad Drake of Elmer; two brothers, Glen Lowe of Brighton, Iowa and Charlie Lowe and wife, Wanda of Washington, Iowa; one sister, Ruth Arbogast and husband, Chuck of Washington, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Craig Morgan of Rubio, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Judy McBride and husband, Bill of Loveland, Colorado.

Her parents; one sister, Sarah Morgan; three brothers, Roy Lowe and wife, Frances, Delbert ?Jake? Lowe and wife, Violet, and Duane Lowe and wife, Marie preceded her in death.
