Merton G. Clancy
Merton G. Clancy, 86, of Mt. Pleasant died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Morning Sun Care Center.
Celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Interment will be held in Forest Home Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the Weir Funeral Home. There will be no family visitation at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Lion's Eye Bank at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Mr. Clancy was born July 16, 1913, in Hardy, the son of Schyler C. and Lela M. Saxton Clancy. On June 2, 1940 at Cedar Rapids, he married Eve Nugent, who survives. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1931 and attended Iowa State University at Ames for three years. He was a farm implement salesman most of his life having worked for Oliver and Ford Tractor Companies and the Paper Machine Co. for several years. During WWII, he helped build the ALCON Highway. He owned and operated the Ford Tractor dealership in Mt. Pleasant for 10 years and worked for Mt. Pleasant Ford Tractor another 12 years. He was a member of the Congregational Church at Charles City.
He is survived by his wife at Morning Sun Care Center; his son, Donald M. and wife Maxine, of Apple Valley, Minn.; his daughter, Sue and husband, Dean Anderson of Morning Sun; four grandchildren, Gayle and Terry Simon of Victoria, Minn., Lynne and Mark Haisting of Rosemont, Minn., Jeff and Lori Anderson and Scott and Jaci Anderson, all of Des Moines; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan and Michael Simon, all of Victoria, Minn. and Ben Haisting of Rosemont, Minn. He is preceded in death by one brother, Marion Clancy.
