It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Rees, 53, of Crawfordsville, Iowa announces he passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, surrounded by family, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a battle with cancer. Graveside services were held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Cambrian Cemetery. Following the committal service, a Celebration of Life was held at 3:00 p.m. at the Columbus Junction American Legion. Memorials may be left to the family in memory of Mike. The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Columbus Junction is caring for the family. Online may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com. Mike requested that no one wear a suit or tie, jeans are appropriate and would love for you to wear something Iowa State, St. Louis Cardinals, CCHS, racing, or Shriner. He also requested no flowers.
Michael Dean Rees was born on November 13, 1970, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Donald and Janet (Black) Rees. On February 15,1997, he was united in marriage to Rachel Olson. Although divorced, the couple remained dedicated parents raising their two boys, Erik and Evan. Their friendship came full circle in the last few years of his life and were together as a family in the end as he wanted. Mike was an owner-operator of Rees Trucking. He loved driving. Those who knew him knew his catch phrase of “Let’s Ride.” He was an active member of the Masons and the Shriners. He loved attending parades with the Siamese car. He was a proud resident of “Wyman Heights.” Mike enjoyed racing, cheering on the Iowa State football and basketball teams, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved attending his boys’ and nephew’s school sporting events cheering, and a whistle that no one could miss. But mostly he loved spending time with his boys.
He is survived by his mother Janet Rees; two sons, Erik Rees of Kearney, Nebraska, and Evan Rees of Ames; brothers, Matthew Rees of Cedar Rapids (children Garrett and Hannah), Patrick (Tera) Rees of Columbus Junction (children Alex and Donovan.); Rachel Rees of Muscatine; many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
We would like to send a thank-you to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic staff for their compassionate care throughout his entire battle.
