Michael Richard Brinning, 55, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a sudden illness. He went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ with his loving family by his side.
Private family services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, at Faith Baptist Church, with Pastor Jon Rees officiating. Services will be livestreamed on the Jones Funeral Home Facebook page. Calling hours will begin noon Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mask usage and social distancing guidelines will be enforced. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Faith Baptist Church and for Kewash Trail Improvements. Mike was born September 2, 1964, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Richard and Mary (Murguia) Brinning. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School and went on to further his schooling at Muscatine Community College and Southern Illinois University, where he received a degree in Agriculture Business. He then joined the family farm operation with his dad in rural Keota. Mike was united in marriage to Paula Rummelhart on Sept. 16, 1989, in Riverside, Iowa.
Mike switched from farming to operating his own contracting business in 1999 and enjoyed sharing his handyman skills with whomever he met. He and Paula had three children: Kelsey, Kyle and Christina. He was a former member of the Iowa Corn Growers Association and West Chester Lion's Club, and a current member of Iowa Farm Bureau, Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and Faith Baptist Church. Mike enjoyed being active in the community and especially enjoyed the local YMCA and bicycle rides on the Kewash Trail. His most memorable moment was his acceptance of Christ as his Savior in 1986.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Brinning of Keota, IA; daughter, Kelsey Stout and husband Bryce of Keota, IA; son, Kyle Brinning and wife Makenzie of Waverly, IA; and daughter, Christina Brinning of Keota, IA; mother, Mary Brinning of Washington, IA; sister, Angela Smith and husband Bruce of Des Moines, IA; brother, Ted Brinning and wife Sandra of Marion, IA; mother-in-law, Marilyn Bennett of West Chester, IA; father-in-law, Paul Rummelhart and wife Patricia of Hills, IA; sister-in-law, Julie Smith of West Chester, IA; and brother-in-law, Bret Rummelhart of Wilmington, DE; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
