Michael S. "Mike" Jarvis, 80, of Burlington, IA, and formerly of Mt. Pleasant and New London, IA, passed away October 7, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Ottumwa, IA, following complications related to open heart surgery.
Michael was born on February 5, 1941, in Iowa City, IA, the son of Everett R. and Alice Shannon Jarvis. He was raised in Mt. Pleasant, IA, graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, with the class of 1959. He received a Bachelor's degree from Drake University, Des Moines, IA. During his college career, he attended two semesters on an around-the-world cruise aboard the University of the Seven Seas.
Michael enlisted in the US Army Intelligence Corp., serving a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following his discharge, he was employed as a cost control analyst and engineer at the IAAP, Middletown. He later worked as an engineer at Exide until his retirement.
On October 10, 1970 in Mt. Pleasant, IA, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Miller. Michael and Rosalie raised and showed registered Quarter Horses on their acreage west of New London. They divorced in 1995, but remained close. He later married Lisa Gerdes. They separated in 2008.
Michael enjoyed many pets (cats, dogs and horses) through the years. He was an art and antique collector as well as a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed world travel and often joked that he was in Vietnam several years before the US Army sent him there.

Pleasant; a brother, Roger Maynard, Fort Collins, Colorado; his ex-wife and companion, Rosalie Jarvis, New London, Lisa Jarvis (Dr. Jon Estrin), Fairfield; very good friends, Joey Wardle and Valerie Traman, Burlington; and his beloved cat, Gus.
