Michael Steven Reuben Johnson, 52, of Mt. Union, Iowa, died in a vehicle accident Wednesday, July 14, 2021. Michael was born October 30, 1968, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Ron and Laura (Johnson) Johnson. Mike attended Winfield-Mount Union School and
after graduation he attended Missouri Military Academy
at Mexico, Missouri, for one year. He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed fishing, rock hunting, camping, mushroom hunting, spending time with his friends and family and his dog, Murphy. He was skilled at gardening and crafting (especially arrowhead making). He rode in RAGBRAI in 2000. He earned a first-degree brown belt in Tae Kwon Do.
Mike was married to Michelle Robinson on December 1, 1989, until her death in 1990. He later married Michele Christy in 2012. They recently divorced in 2021.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Ron and Beverly Johnson of LaHarpe, Illinois; three sisters, Jody (Charles) Brown of Wayland, Iowa, Julie Johnson of Burlington, Iowa, and April (Chris) Bayers of Moscow, Iowa; three brothers, Mark (Carla) Johnson of Council Bluff, Iowa, Chuck (Larita) Hulke of Sterling, Illinois, and Wesley Hulke of Winfield, Iowa; one daughter, Madison Parkhurst of Bettendorf, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; paternal and maternal grandparents; his mother; one nephew, Kayden; and brother, Curtis, who also died in a car accident.
Visitation for Michael will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Service of Winfield. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 at Trinity Cemetery, south of Mt. Union, with Charles Brown officiating.
