Michelle Lynn Richards, 55, of Danville, died Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics,
Iowa City.
Michelle was born in Burlington on September 7, 1966, the daughter of Charles "Jim" and Leona M. Becker Byars. On November 3, 1990, she married Mark Daniel Richards at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Burlington.
She was a 1984 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1986 graduate of Southeastern Community College with an AA degree and then attended Western Illinois University for three years. Michelle was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. Her first job, at age 12, was working in the concession stand for the Burlington Bees. During her lifetime she also worked for the family businesses, Richards Electric and Jim's Locksmith Shop, and also the Danville Schools. She was a loving mother, attending to her children and all of their activities. Michelle was always helping others and especially enjoyed spending time with her friends.
Michelle is survived by her husband, Mark of Danville; two sons, Curtis "Chuck" (Mary) Richards of Port Byron, Illinois, and Trent Richards of Danville; one daughter, Miranda Richards of Danville; her mother, Leona Byars of Burlington; a sister, Susan Mullins and a brother, Mike Byars, both of Burlington; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 11, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. Father Paul Connolly will officiate with burial to follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Elliott Chapel, New London on Sunday, October 10 from noon until 6 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to H2O (Help to Others) and St. Alphonsus Religious Education.
