Mildred Mozell Altman
HUMBOLDT ? Mildred Mozell Altman, 104, of Humboldt, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Doug Wolter officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Humboldt. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Baptist Church or KJYL Radio.
Mrs. Altman was born Aug. 29, 1910, in Boone, the daughter of Grant and Helen (Saunders) Hoffman. She married Jacob ?Jack? Altman on Dec. 18, 1935.
She moved with her family to a farm west of Rutland in Humboldt County in 1919. She was educated in South Valley Rural School and Rutland Junior High School. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1928. She then taught for eight years in Avery and Corinth Township rural schools. She and her husband purchased a farm in Weaver Township and lived on the farm until 1977, when they retired to Humboldt. She was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, the Rebekah Lodge since 1929, Unique Homemakers Club, Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary, and Humboldt-Dakota City Senior Citizens. She was a past 4-H leader, a member of Federated Study Club (RFOM), and Friendly Visitors of Humboldt County. In 1962 she was chosen as a Master Homemaker of Iowa. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, islands off the United States, and several countries in Europe. Her passion was playing card games, reading books, and watching sports on television. She spent time knitting slippers and stocking hats for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen McCreedy and husband Wilfred of Washington, and Mardell Jacobson and husband Earling of Waseca, Minn.; three sons, Douglas Altman and wife Karen of Ankeny, Paul Altman and wife Smitty of West Palm Beach, Fla., and David Altman and wife Sandra of Coon Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Altman; her parents; her stepmother, Ida Hoffman; one brother, Gordon Hoffman; one sister, Hazel Nordstrum; one stepbrother, Berwin Throndsen; and one stepsister, Deloris Steyer.
