Miriam Elaine Vorhies, 91, of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, at Parkview Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gregory Friedrich officiating. A Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow at Elks Lodge until 8 p.m.

There will be a private burial of cremains at Evergreen Cemetery.

Miriam was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to Mark F. and Ada C. (Thorson) Speaker. She married Warren T. Vorhies on June 19, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He passed away Jan. 28, 1998.

Miriam and Warren owned and operated Vorhies Construction. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Fairfield Golf & Country Club, T.T.T and P.E.O. Miriam was an excellent seamstress. She loved working in her flower bed and enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family.

Miriam will be missed by her children, Kent (Karen) Vorhies of Prescott, Ariz., Katharine (Larry) Dickstein of Kansas City, Mo., Margaret (Jeff) Allen of Denver, Iowa, Janice (Greg) DeAth of Fairfield, Iowa, and Karen (Tom) Shepherd of Kirkland, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Chelann, Todd, Jeremy, Justin, Dan, Mark, Sarah, Jenniffer, Jamie, Emily, Elliot and Mitchell (deceased); and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Ada; her husband, Warren; two brothers; one sister; and grandson, Mitchell.
