Monroe I. Bender

      KALONA - Monroe I. Bender, 85, of Pleasantview Home in Kalona, formerly of Washington, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, in Pleasantview Home following a short illness.

      Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16 in the Fairview Mennonite Church in Kalona with the Rev. Perry L. Miller and the Rev. John Hershberger officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, where the family will be present from 1:30 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Lending Hands of Washington.

      Mr. Bender was born Nov. 28, 1922, the son of Ira D. and Lean (Miller) Bender. He married Barbara Coblentz on Jan. 17, 1943.
