Nancy Pauline Baird

Nancy Pauline Baird, 80, a resident of SunnyBrook Assisted Living Center in Fairfield, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Internment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, followed by a prayer service.

Memorials may be made to Jefferson County Health Center, Fairfield Public Library or St. Mary Catholic Church.

Mrs. Baird was born June 27, 1933 in Fairfield, the daughter of Francis J. and Anna Keller O?Neill. She married John Richard Baird June 12, 1954, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield. He died March 3, 1989.

She lived most of her life in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School.

She attended Western Union training school in Indianna. She worked for Western Union in Muscatine.

She was a homemaker and worked at Kramer?s and at First National Bank in Fairfield.

She volunteered at the hospital Gift Shop and The Bargain Box and many other local activities.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Helping Hands and the church funeral committee.

She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, reading, cooking and baking and helping with church activities.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan Hedlund of Duluth, Minn., Kathleen Ness and spouse Larry of Cedar Rapids, and Christena Countryman and spouse Steve of Libertyville; one son, Brian Baird and spouse Lorrie of Washington, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Helen Loving of Kenosha, Wis.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Julia Welsh and JoAnn O?Neill; one brother, John O?Neill; and one grandson.
