KALONA ? Nathaniel ?Nate? Austin Hawbaker, 15, of Kalona, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church in Kalona with the Rev. Larry Rediger officiating. Burial will be in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 15, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona, where the family will greet friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established.
Nate was born Jan. 3, 2001, in Iowa City, the son of Ben and Sonja (Jones) Hawbaker.
He was a freshman at Mid-Prairie High School, where he played football and ran track. He enjoyed snowboarding, video games, and long-range shooting, and he loved his cat.
Surviving are his parents, Ben and Sonja Hawbaker of Kalona; four siblings, Zachary Lara of Kalona, Lincoln Hawbaker of Riverside, Brennyn Hawbaker of Kalona, and Paul Hawbaker of Kalona; three nieces; one nephew; his grandparents, Dennis and Stephanie Whitlock of Coralville, Dennis and Rhonda Jones of Lovington, New Mexico, Jerry and Barbara Hawbaker of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, and Paula Walton of Riverside; his great-grandmothers, Susan Sturgeon of Gardendale, Texas, and Jean Zehr of Mediapolis; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
