Neal Gerard Megchelsen, age 65, of Ainsworth, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2025, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Ainsworth Community Church with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Calling hours will begin 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23rd at the Ainsworth Community Church where the family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Ainsworth Community Church or the Ainsworth Opera House. Online condolences may be sent for Neal’s family at www.jonesfh.com
Neal was born December 21, 1959, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Henry Gerard and Dorothy Leann (McCreedy) Megchelsen. He graduated from Highland High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Farm Operations from Iowa State University. Neal was united in marriage to Karen Sue Timm on July 13, 1985, in Marion, Iowa.
Neal farmed all of his life in the Ainsworth community. He was an active member of the Ainsworth Community Church where he served on Parish Council. Neal was actively involved with many organizations in the community including: Ainsworth Opera House, Washington County Extension Council, Townview Village Board of Directors and Township Trustee. He enjoyed his free time cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Megchelsen of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter, Rachel (Zach) Carstensen of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter, Renee (Derek) Davis of Columbus, Nebraska; son, Trent Megchelsen of Elk Horn, Iowa; four grandchildren: Kase, Oliver, Lily and Brynn Carstensen; sister Sara Megchelsen and husband Rob Horning of Stillwater, Minnesota; sister, Mary Malenke of Maple Grove, Minnesota; and his nieces and nephews.
Neal was preceded in death by his father in 1996 and his mother in 2011, and brother-in-law, David Malenke.
