Neva P. Long, 84, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at her home in Mount Pleasant. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Paul Connolly as celebrant. Burial will be

in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Following the visitation, a Christian vigil service will be held. A memorial has been established in her memory.

Neva was born Nov. 12, 1934, in Brownfield, Texas, the daughter of Eusebio and Nestora (Gutierrez) Prieto. She was united in marriage to David W. Long on Oct. 27, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Albuquerque, N.M. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2013. Neva and David moved to Mount Pleasant in 1967.

She worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Metromail and later for Healitor in Mount Pleasant, retiring after 23 years. She enjoyed watching "Wheel of Fortune," crossword puzzles, embroidering and spending time watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Neva was a devoted Catholic and was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant.

Neva is survived by her children, Vivian (Randy) Baxter of Mount Pleasant, Dwayne Long of Camden Point, Mo., Bonnie Auwerda of Mount Pleasant, Neva Irene Smith of Mount Pleasant and Robert (Vida) Long of Mount Pleasant; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Santos Silva Jr.

Neva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Long; one son, Raymond Charles Long; and her sister, Elma Silva.
