KALONA ? Nina Mae Miller, 86, of Kalona, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, in Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 2, at the Fairview Mennonite Church in Kalona with the Rev. Perry Miller, the Rev. John Hershberger and the Rev. Leon Stutzman officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 23, 1928, in rural Kalona, the daughter of Daniel G. and Fannie L. (Jantzi) Gingerich. She married Ora W. Miller on March 29, 1986, in a ceremony officiated by John L. Hershberger.
She attended East Lincoln country school and later graduated from LaJunta, Colorado, Licensed Practical School of Nursing. She accepted the Lord as her savior at age 13 and was baptized by Elmer Swartzendruber. She made a new commitment and accepted the call to serve the Lord in Minnesota for a number of years. She had attended several terms at the Berlin, Ohio, Bible School and at Rosedale Bible Institute in Ohio, where she served as dean of women for two terms. She worked at Mercy Hospital for four years, and then as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals for 27 years, retiring in January 1995.
Surviving are five stepchildren, Mary Hochstedler and husband Merle of Goshen, Indiana, Eileen Daniels and husband Douglas of Sioux City, Linda Shetler and husband Arnold of Plain City, Ohio, Rosette Shetler and husband Leonard of Goshen, Indiana, and Leora Troyer and husband Robert of Dalton, Ohio; one step-daughter-in-law, Sandra Miller of Kalona; 18 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice (Mrs. J. Wesley) Hochstedler of Kalona, and Ella June Miller and husband Eldon of Clayhole, Kentucky (near Rowdy, Kentucky); five sisters-in-law, Clara Gingerich of Iowa City, Ada Gingerich of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ruby (Mrs. Manass) Miller, Ida (Mrs. Marion) Mullet, and Marjorie (Mrs. Ervin) Chupp; and one brother-in-law, Elijah Miller and wife Susan; 40 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on June 23, 1988; five brothers, George, Leslie (husband of Mary), Alvin (husband of Lydia), Verton (husband of Lydia), and Ivo Gingerich; two stepsons, Norman in infancy, and Merle A. Miller; one nephew; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Miller, and Rosetta Glick; and one brother-in-law, Vernon Miller.
