Norman Lee Thomas, 81, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, June 19, 2023 at the Washington County Hospital.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Jones & Eden Funeral home with Spiritual Life Director Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Military honors will be accorded following the services. Family members are going to keep Norm’s cremated remains. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association. Norman was born July 24, 1941, in Marietta, Ohio, the son of Newton and Lela (Nixon) Thomas. He graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational – Technical High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Norman served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the submarine U.S.S. Skate. He was united in marriage to Claire Wilson, then later Ann M. Spadafora.
He ended his working career at Northwest Airlines where he worked for 33 years. He was a member of the Washington County Archers. He enjoyed archery, deer hunting, fishing and all of nature and the outdoors. He was an archery coach with the National Archery in School Program, U.P. Home’s Day Care and Home School children.
Norman is survived by his wife, Ann of Washington, Iowa; son, Bryan (Jessica) Thomas of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania; daughter, Amy Molino of Roslyn, Pennsylvania; step-daughter, Christine Conry of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren, Ashley Thomas of Edison, New Jersey; Tara Thomas of Alfred, New York; Cameron Bright of Aniconda, Montana; Jacqueline (Travis) Peterson of Taylorsville, Utah; Joshua (Jessica) Sanders of Montgomery, Texas; two great-grandsons De’Mian Sanders of Montgomery, Texas and Gunner Bright of Wayland, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Gerald Wayne Sanders.
