Norman R. ?Butch? Snyder
Norman R. ?Butch? Snyder, 62, well respected and longtime Mt. Pleasant businessman, died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
He was born April 27, 1938, in Garden Grove, Iowa, the son of Forrest Roy and Ruby Phipps Snyder. He graduated from Stockport High School in 1955. On April 6, 1958, he was united in marriage to Linda Davidson in Stockport, Iowa.
After graduating from Iowa Barber College in Des Moines, he barbered in Mt. Pleasant from 1956-1965. He then worked in the feed business for the Walnut Grove and Rath companies. Mr. Snyder later became an insurance agent with the Combined Insurance Company and later for 15 years was an agent with the American Family Insurance Company. In 1992, he resumed his practice as a barber until the time of his death.
Butch and Linda enjoyed traveling on their motorcycle and toured the entire United States, including Hawaii and also Canada. Most of his time was spent enjoying his wife, kids, and grandkids. He was a member of the Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mt. Pleasant.
In the Fall of 1984, Butch completed his studies through the Robert Tilton Word of Faith Ministries and became an ordained minister. He was devoted to God and walked his faith. He loved his family and gave of himself to see that they were cared for. It was his heartfelt desire to see his grandchildren achieve the education they desired. In keeping with that, the family request that memorials be given to the Norman Snyder Memorial which will be applied to his grandchildren?s education.
Norman is survived by his wife Linda of Mt. Pleasant, three daughters, Chris (Wendell) Whaley of Mt. Pleasant, Nancy (Dick) Watson of Mt. Pleasant, Tracy (Bret) Siemons of Creighton, Missouri, seven grandchildren, Nick and Kyla Whaley, Dustin, Seth and Tyler Watson, T.J. and Abbi Siemons. Also surviving is one brother, Keith Snyder of Stockport, Iowa, three sisters, Jeri Pratt of Harrisonville, Missouri, Louise Lanam of Quarryville, Pennsylvania, Ruby Dorothy of Richland, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Katherine Snyder, a brother, Forrest Snyder and a sister, Donna Carrico.
Visitation will begin after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Friends may also call at the funeral chapel Wednesday morning until 12:00 noon. At 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, family and friends will leave the funeral chapel to go to the Stockport Cemetery for a committal service.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Faith Outreach Christian Church with Pastor Monte Knudsen and the Rev. Charles E. Comfort officiating.
