MEDIAPOLIS ? O. Leon ?Bud? Shelman, 80, of Mediapolis, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at his home.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, at the First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis with the Rev. Bruce Smith and the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Burial will follow at the Kossuth Cemetery with graveside military rites. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will meet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials have been established for the First United Methodist Church and Great River Hospice.
Mr. Shelman was born Dec. 3, 1935, at Hillsboro, the son of Gordon and Lillian (Kephart) Shelman. He married Martha Lindsey on June 5, 1956, at Fort Benning, Georgia.
He was a graduate of the Washington High School in Washington, and attended Iowa Wesleyan College. He worked at H and L Mack as service manager and driver for over 30 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis, and the American Legion, and was a former member of the Mediapolis Fire Department. He served in the Army from 1954-56. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Martha, of Mediapolis; two sons, Lindsey Shelman and wife Debbie, and Bruce Shelman and wife Debbie, all of Mediapolis; one daughter, Teresa Fletcher and husband Bill of Muscatine; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe Shelman of Washington; and one sister, Ann Sheetz of Keota.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
