O. William "Bill" Schelen 75, of 1501 College, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 in Blessing Hospital.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Madison Park Christian Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at the church, with the Rev. Keith Ehresman and Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Madison Park Christian Church or radio station WQJC. He was born July 9, 1932 in in Burlington, the son of Oscar and Jewell Miller Schelen. On Oct. 2, 1965, he married Barbara J. Dickson in Quincy.
He attended Madison Park Christian Church. He was a noted speaker on UFOs, having spoken to many groups and organizations. While living in California, he played several small parts in movies and TV, notably Dragnet and Have Gun, Will Travel.
The majority of his life was spent in broadcasting in California, Texas, Florida, Iowa and Illinois. He began his Quincy broadcast career with KHQA TV doing the weather, sports, news, Cardinal ticket giveaway and his noon day talk show. After his retirement from broadcasting, he worked at Wal-Mart in the sporting goods department and as General Manager for radio station WQJC 107.9 FM.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Burk K. Schelen of Crawfordsville; a sister-in-law, Shirley Requet and her husband Bill of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two nephews.
His parents and son Brock Schelen preceded him in death.
