KALONA ? Olen L. Schrock, 91, of Kalona, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, in Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Burial will be in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the church, where the family will greet friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice and Gideons International. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Schrock was born Sept. 11, 1925, in Bremen, Indiana, the son of Levi and Sarah (Yoder ) Schrock. He married Mary E. Graber on Dec. 2, 1948, in Indiana.
He and his wife moved to the Kalona area in 1956. He was a dairy farmer for most of his life until his retirement in 1996. He was baptized in his youth and was a member of Sharon Bethel Church, where he was a member until his death. He enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms, carpentry and woodworking in his shop. For more than 30 years he volunteered for local prison ministries, attending their chapel services and holding Bible studies. He also graded Bible study courses for Gospel Echoes for many years. He was a member of the Washington Chapter of Gideons International. In his youth he traveled to Europe on two voyages with the Seagoing Cowboys to deliver cattle and horses to war-torn countries after World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mary, of Kalona; 10 children, Wayne Schrock and wife Norma of Millersburg, Indiana, P.R. Schrock and wife Sherry of Wellman, John Schrock and wife Diane of Wellman, Carl Schrock and wife Julie of Syracuse, Indiana, Lawrence Schrock and wife Linda of Syracuse, Indiana, Jay Schrock and wife Lori of Kalona, Ezra Schrock and wife Dawn of Wellman, Ruth Schlabach and husband Lawrence of Kalona, Rachel Wagler and husband Mike of Sigourney, and Rosemary Slabaugh and husband Mark of Kalona; 31 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sylvia Ropp, and Alma Nisly and husband Daniel; one brother, Leo Schrock and wife Nedra; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Schrock, and Fannie Schrock; and one brother-in-law, Perry Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Miller, and Judy Miller; three brothers, Perry, Elmer, and Edwin; and two brothers-in-law, Elmer Ropp, and Rudy Miller.
