Omer J. Hammes

      HARPER - Omer J. Hammes, 89, of Sigourney, formerly of Harper, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 in the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney following a brief illness.

      Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in Holy Trinity Parish - St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper with the Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. followed by a K.C. rosary. A memorial fund has been established for the National Kidney Foundation or Hospice of Keokuk County.

      Mr. Hammes was born Feb. 4, 1918 in rural Sigourney, the son of Peter and Theresa (Gries) Hammes. He married Burnita Besser on May 5, 1947 in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper.
