Onalee Hootman, 88, of Birmingham, IA passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022, at the Prestige Care Center in Fairfield, IA. As were her wishes, her body has been cremated. A time to celebrate her life and share stories with the family will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, IA. Burial will be held privately in the Kilbourne Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Onalee’s honor may be directed to the Kilbourne Cemetery. Onalee Hootman was born on August 21, 1934, in rural Birmingham, IA to John and Zoe Gilbert Swartout. She attended rural school before graduating with the Birmingham High School Class of 1952. Shortly after graduation she was united in marriage to Rex Hootman Sr. and together they became the loving parents of two children, Rex Jr. and Julia. Rex and Onalee later divorced. Onalee worked in shipping at the Fairfield Glove Factory where she was a dedicated employee for many years. She loved the outdoors, especially finding a good fishing spot. Onalee was a gifted cook and loved spending time with her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and many friends she made along the way.
Onalee was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rex Hootman Jr.; one sister, Mary Nelle Haessig; a daughter-in-law, Tamara Hootman; and special friend, Roxie Fulton.
Left to honor her memory are her daughter, Julia (Danny) Cass of Birmingham, IA; two grandchildren, Nathan (Amber) Cass of Fairfield, IA and Sara (Cody) Jones of Birmingham, IA; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Cass; two nieces, Barb (Lenus) Duffie and Debbie (Pat) Schaffer; as well as many extended family and friends.
