KALONA ? Owen Eugene Miller, 84, of Kalona died Monday, June 5, 2017, in the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, June 9, at the Kalona Mennonite Church in Kalona. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona First Responders and the Kalona Mennonite Church. The Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Miller was born Sept. 16, 1932, in Kalona, the son of Paris L. and Lydia (Briskey) Miller. He married Ruby Bender on Sept. 9, 1956, at the Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona.
He attended Prairie Dale Rural School. He worked as a carpenter most of his life and was a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church and the Coachmen Camping Club (Pete?s Fleas). He enjoyed camping, family vacations, mushroom hunting, being with his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters, and never missed their sporting events. He was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby; three children, Deb Kaefring and husband Dean, Larry Miller, and Sandy Owens and husband Doug; eight grandchildren; eight great-granddaughters; two step-great-grandsons; and five siblings, Anna Peiffer, Alma Hershberger, Iowa, Charles ?Chip? Miller and wife Karen, Sally Hershberger and husband John L. Hershberger, and Marilyn Bender and husband Derald.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, Robert, and Milton Miller; one sister-in-law, Ella Miller; two brothers-in-law, John D. Hershberger, and Charles Peiffer; and one nephew, Delwyn Hershberger.
