Russell Loraine Norton was born February 15, 1918 to Sherman and Blanch (Eshelman) Norton in Clear Lake, Wisconsin. The family later moved to Iowa. He was educated at Mohawk Country School in Jefferson County, Iowa.      Russell was part of the 28th U.S. Naval Seabees during World War II.
