James "Jim" Edwin Short, 69, of Burlington, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at his home. The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 am, Thursday Jan. 12 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf as celebrant. The Veterans Honor Guard of VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League and the AMVETS Post 29 will conduct military rites. Burial will be in

Dr. Jack N. Morgan, 82, of Fairfield died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at the Van Buren County Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. Mr. Morgan was a physician, surgeon and partner at the Fairfield Clinic until his retirement.

Anna Louise DuBois, 97, of Sunrise Terrace in Winfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, in Winfield. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Mildred H. Bell, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at a hospice in Burleson, Texas. A funeral was held Oct. 22 and burial was in Laurel Land Memorial park. Mrs. Bell was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Van Buren County, the daughter of Homer and Bertha Ware Lydolph. She married Harold C. Bell Oct. 1, 1939, in Bloomfield. Vera Blough, 91, passed away Monday, January 9, 2006, at the Round Rock Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas. Vera was born July 25, 1914 in Des Moines to Clyde and Ada Mullen. Vera was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. She was married to William Rice, Sr. who passed away on March 10, 1952. Wendell M. Van Syoc, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, from multiple injuries sustained in an automobile accident Dec. 23. Services were Saturday, Dec 31, at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. A memorial has been established in his name at the church. Mr. Van Syoc was born Feb. 21, 1918, in rural Winfield, son of Perl R. and Ada Mason Van Syoc.
