Darlene (Fritz) Gaines, 63, of Downey, Calif., died Friday, April 2, 2004, at home, following a lengthy illness.      A memorial service was held in Downey, Calif., on April 8.      Mrs. Gaines was born on July 25, 1940, in Washington, to Lawrence and Anna (Wagler) Fritz. She married Paul Gaines Jr. on March 13, 1969, in California.
