Joe Hemphill, 93, of Kalona, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona, following a lengthy illness.A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, with the Rev. David L. Yoder and the Rev. Scott Stapleton officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will begin one hour before the service. Memorials

John R. McEvoy, Sr., 82, of Rock Island, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island.Funeral services were held today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Island. Burial was in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be directed to the church or the American Lung Association. Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie A. Haggans, 90, of Oregon City, Ore., died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at her home.Funeral services were held today in Oregon City. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton. Verda Braun, 74, of Washington, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at the McCreedy House in Washington.      Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the Nichols United Methodist Church in Nichols, with the Rev. WAYLAND - Donald C. Payne, 83, of rural Wayland, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.The body has been cremated according to Mr. Payne's wishes. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Finley Cemetery in Wayland, with the Rev. Dr. Carl Klein officiating. Jeremy James Fulk, 21, of New London and stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., died August 1, 2000, in a training accident in California. Arrangements are pending at Elliott Chapel, New London.

Binnie Lou Brush, formerly of Ainsworth, died in a hiking accident in Abiquiu, New Mexico, June 19, 2000.      A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Oakwood United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill.
