Robert Jackson Thornton, five days, of Salem, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A private family graveside service will be held Friday, Nov. 24, at the Hillsboro Cemetery wth the Rev. Nathan Deatrick of the First Baptist Church of Wayland, Mo., officiating. Friends may sign the register and leave memorials on Friday from 10 to noon at the Olson-Powell

Walter "Bert" Herin, 86, of Washington, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at his home.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will be in the Cedar Township Cemetery near Fremont. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A general memorial has been established.
