Corn gets needed shot of rain
It is late July and that means most of the corn has tasseled. Dry conditions during the tasseling had farmers on edge. However, some of the fears were alleviated Thursday night when the region received its first meaningful rain in weeks. Mt. Pleasant received over two inches of rain and in the New London area, there were reports of nearly four inches.

Fair poultry show winners
Alannah McLain won three top awards in the Henry County Fair Poultry Show. McLain showed the champion rooster, best egg production and best breeding birds.Becca Strothman had the best of class broiler project and Ben Schlatter notched reserve champion honors. Beckman has grand champion in goat show
Anna Beckman exhibited the grand champion doe in the Henry County Fair?s Goat Show. Schlatter, Loyd show champion, reserve lambs
Briana-Sue Schlatter and Brady Loyd took home the top prizes in the fair sheep show. Schlatter showed the grand champion market lamb and Loyd had the reserve.Schlatter also added the senior showmanship trophy to her winnings.
