Salem council to discuss purchases
SALEM ? Salem City Council members will tackle some business tonight (Tuesday) that was tabled last month.Tentative agenda items include a back-up city maintenance position, computer software upgrade for the city clerk and possible tractor and lawn mower purchase.Council members meet at the Community Center at 7 p.m.

Soup supper in Salem
Salem Fire and Rescue will be holding a soup supper on Saturday, March 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Salem Community Building.The meal will be a free-will donation with an auction to follow.Money is being raised to cover the expenses to send six people to EMT class.

Dads and daughters take to the dance floor
Henry County?s Relay for Life hosted one of its largest fund-raisers of the year Feb. 23 with the Daddy-Daughter Dance at the E3 Center in Mt. Pleasant. Shawn Elder, right in photo, returned to Mt. Pleasant from Tulsa, Okla., to take his daughter, Hallie, 7, to the dance. Elder is attending school in Oklahoma.
