Big ideas to make big money
Hello, people of Henry County. You all have given me so much over the last few years and I think it's about time to give back. Here's the deal: I come up with big money making business ideas all the time. Some of these ideas could probably make me rich and give me a shot to retire at 35, but I like being a sports editor too much to go through with any of them, and also everyone I pitch these to rips on them and ...

Just plain Rosanna
Editor's Note: Our friend Rosanna filled in for Gloria this week who is in the midst of moving. Summer has hit eastern Kansas with a vengeance, making our daily culinary goal simply avoiding heating up our kitchens with the oven. This is helped by the fact that just this week, the ovens in both our residence and the employee kitchen have quit working which only leaves us with two ovens.I know it doesn't sound ...

Blossom gets revenge
Blossom doesn't like being weaned. Not one bit. When I go in her pen to check her calf starter, hay and water, she pesters me to no end, nose bumping me for milk and sucking on anything she can get ahold of: clothing, fingers or elbows. That nose bumping hurts, especially when she comes up from behind and nails me in the rear.To pacify her, so that I can get to her feed and water, I had taken to letting her suck ...

Do you know the difference?
In an old observation about human behavior, the question is asked, ?What is the difference between a tavern and a church?? In the tavern everyone talks about their problems and where to find solutions. In the church, nobody talks about their problems, even though the church's existence is based on offering solutions to life's problems.Hmm. Both the tavern and the church are places where people choose to go to ...

Spring cleaning for the soul
Greetings to all of you in the name of Jesus Christ. I pray that you are having a blessed spring and that you are enjoying these warm, sunny days.Regarding the weather, I have a confession to make to you. Even though I live in Iowa, I am not a fan of winter. I suppose my feelings could have been influenced by my southern roots.Being from Mississippi, I was never exposed to winters such as those we have in Iowa. ...

The lake house
By Karyn Spory, Mt. Pleasant News The world is wide and vast, and yet my favorite place isn't under the bright lights of Sunset Boulvard, at a base of a glacier in Yellowstone or on the sandy beaches of North Carolina, it's just down the way, through the winding blacktop of a long forgotten Missouri highway, where grass sprouts through the cracks of the centerline, and down a dusty gravel road. For as long as I ...

Gloria is on the move
Hello friends, I think of you a lot. How can it be that I don't know you readers, yet it feels like I do?We've been busy these days with a new adventure. Some time ago my parents asked to talk with my husband, Daniel, and I.Naturally, my inquisitive nature kicked in, trying to figure out just what it could be about. Finally, with the children playing outside on the swing set and us adults relaxing in the living ...

Gloria's long journey
By Gloria Yoder Let me tell you about our recent trip to Ohio.At 3 a.m. on Friday, the driver of a Journey Tour bus started making its rounds and picking up four families, including our little tribe, in preparation for the seven hour trip to Danville, Ohio where we planned to attend a wedding of one of my husband's cousins.Since we do not own or drive vehicles, it seemed like a wise choice to go with a bus ...
