Bentonsport Historic District Heritage Day Saturday, Sept. 1
In 1839 the town of Bentonsport was platted. It became a bustling steamboat town situated on the Des Moines River and provided transportation for people and goods. Bentonsport was the site of the first paper mill in Iowa as well as grist, saw, linseed oil and woolen mills. USDA announces final rule for indemnity payments

Sixth annual Pioneer Cemetery day Sept. 8
The Henry County Pioneer Cemetery Commission will host their sixth annual Pioneer Cemetery Day on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Woodlawn/Irishtown Pioneer Cemetery at 600 W. Irish Ridge Rd. The afternoon will be spent honoring early settlers and veterans buried in the cemeteries. The commission asks that the public bring lawn chairs for this free event.
