Salem Friends Church to host gathering for Pastor Haley Aug. 29
Pastor Jared Haley of Salem Friends Church, along with his wife, Cairistiona, recently returned from Rwanda, Africa. They traveled with North Ridge Friends Church, Witchita, Kan. to the Kumbya Conference, a retreat for missionaries from Rwanda, Barundi and Tanzania. Several members of the Aline Hesseltine and the late Howard Hesseltine family were in Des Moines at the Iowa State Fair on Thursday, Aug. 16, to receive the Century Farm Award for their family farm. William Peck, of East Pleasant Plain, will celebrate his 90th birthday on Wednesday, Aug. 29.Bill was born Aug. 29, 1928. He was raised on a farm south of Brighton, the youngest of 11 children. Swedesburg church members visit Houston
Youth and adult leaders from Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church participated in the ELCA Youth Gathering in Houston earlier this summer. Days were filled with service learning opportunities, meeting other youth from southeastern Iowa, and an evening mass gathering of over 31,000 youth and adult leaders.

Swedesburg church members visit Tanzania
Jackie Brawner, Ben Rauenbuehler, Nathanael Youngquist and Pastor Mark Youngquist from the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church visited their companion congregations in Tanzania in early August. They toured their pig project, the building of a pastor's house, the Lutheran hospital and a local school that they assist.
