Know your rights class
On Saturday, May 19, from 4-7 p.m. First Presbyterian Church is hosting a Know Your Rights class led by Justice For Our Neighbors (JFON). The free class will cover immigrant rights, preparing for raids and safety plans for families.

Community garden
Every Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 9 a.m., volunteers are needed to work the community garden in Wayland. The garden is located across from WACO High School in the new housing development. Volunteers will be able to take home free, fresh produce. For more information call Don at 319-256-5090.

Fire department trains at the airport
For those who saw a plume of thick, dark smoke over the Mt. Pleasant Airport, there was no need to call the fire department; they were already there. The Mt. Medication disposal box available in Fairfield
FAIRFIELD - Nucara Pharmacy located in the Jefferson County Health Center at 2000 S. Main St. in Fairfield will provide public access to a medication disposal box. The box is available for people wanting to dispose of medications.Access to the medication disposal box is Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant High School students awarded as students of character
Madeline Van De Berg was nominated as one of three Mt. Pleasant High School juniors awarded the April/May student of character at Mt. Pleasant High school. The students were nominated by faculty members for demonstrating the pillars of character.
