Patricia Ann Hilligas, 83, of Brooklyn, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022, at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn, Iowa.
Patricia Ann Hilligas was born November 4, 1939, eldest child of Wilbur E. and Wilma E. Branson Lindner. Patricia graduated from the Summitville School in Lee County Iowa in 1954. In 1957 she graduated from Keokuk High School, Keokuk, Iowa. She furthered her education in the nursing field, graduating from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1960.
On September 10, 1960, she was united in marriage with Richard Dale Hilligas at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, Iowa. They were married for 45 years before his death in 2005. She was an active member of Kent Union Chapel, Brooklyn Iowa. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 53, Grinnell, Iowa. She was a past member of P.E.O. and T.T.T. in Brooklyn, IA.
Patricia had been employed by Brooklyn Community Estates from 1977 to 2020 a Registered Nurse and previously worked for the late Robert M. Carney, MD.
She enjoyed spending time with extended family and especially making time to attend all of her nieces and nephews special events. Each and everyone was dear to her heart. She loved working on genealogy. Pat was always ready to travel, especially to see family. For many years she attended sprint car races. Reading was her favorite pastime.
She is survived by a son, Leroy D. Hilligas, Brooklyn Iowa; sisters, Lois (Dan) Braun Mt. Pleasant, IA; Arlene (Stanley) Small, McKinney, TX; and Ardeth (Lloyd) Plum,Tillamook, OR.; brother, Roger (Janice) Lindner, Keokuk, IA; sister-in-law, Sandra Stratton, Marengo, IA; brother-In-law, Donald (Peggy) Hilligas, Brooklyn, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are numerous cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 2005; her parents; a sister, Judith Hendrickson; and grandparents, Robert W. and Minnie Wirtz Branson, and Milton and Lenora Bergthold Lindner.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, November 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, IA. with visitation at 10:00 preceding the service. A private burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Kent Union Chapel or Camp Courageous. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements.
