Patricia Ann Nielsen was born December 8, 1958, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Billy and Madonna (Kerkove) Coulter. She graduated from Independence High School in 1977. Patricia was united in marriage to Bill Nielsen on May 4, 1979 in Independence. Together they have made Marengo their home. Patricia has worked in food service and customer service. Patricia enjoyed golfing, bingo, playing cards, swimming, spending time with her siblings, attending her kids’ events when they were younger and attending her grandchildren’s activities. Patricia passed away Monday, July 28, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 66 years.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Robbie (Jenna) Nielsen of Williamsburg and Adam (Emily) Nielsen of Marengo; nine grandchildren, Averi, Isla, Ellie, Alexandra, Andie, Madison, Katelynn, Kacie and Kylie; two great-grandchildren, Sloann and Remi; seven siblings, Di (Ed) Henderson, Randy (Nancy) Coulter, Carol (Bob) Quass, Darryl (Michelle) Coulter, Bill Coulter, Janet (Tim) Soukup and John (Sharon) Coulter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, nephew Dean, and niece Erin.

Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. Fr. Scott Lemaster officiated. Burial is in the Calvary Cemetery in Marengo. A Visitation was held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2025 at the American Legion Hall in Marengo. A memorial fund has been established for Breast Cancer Research.
