BRIGHTON ? Patricia Hyde, 81, of Brighton, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, in University Hospitals in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the First Church of God in Brighton with the Rev. Ryan Meader officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery near Coppock. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 10, at the Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Brighton Volunteer First Responders or the Brighton Volunteer Fire Department.
Mrs. Hyde was born July 15, 1934, in Brighton, the daughter of Clarence and Dorah (Farrier) Smith. She married Richard Hyde on Feb. 18, 1953, in Kahoka, Mo.
Because her father served in the Navy, she started school in Hawaii and traveled to Connecticut and California before returning to Iowa in 1943. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1951. She lived all of her married life in the Brighton area. She avidly loved the outdoors, enjoying camping, hunting and fishing all of her life. She was heavily involved in her children?s activities, supporting and helping Boy Scouting, Girl Scouting, and 4-H. She also enjoyed her coffee club and loved to crochet, quilt and knit, and donated many projects to raffles or to friends.
Surviving are three sons, David Hyde and wife Vicky of Birmingham, Phillip Hyde and wife Beth of Washington, and Billy Hyde and wife Ruth of Brighton; one daughter, Cyndi Christensen and husband Dan of Brighton; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Pepper Smith of Brighton, Shirley Robertson of Farmington; and Jean Gilligan of Mountain Home, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on Jan. 9, 2008; her parents; and one infant sister, Virginia.
