WELLMAN ? Patricia Lea (Braymen) Borup, 77, of St. James City, Florida, a longtime resident of Wellman, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016, in Fort Myers, Florida, of heart failure.
Celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman with the Rev. Moody Colorado officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church or to Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.
Mrs. Borup was born April 6, 1939, outside of Shenandoah, the daughter of Bert and Helen (Winfrey) Braymen. She married Roger Borup on Sept. 11, 1960.
She grew up with her nine brothers and sisters on a farm outside of Shenandoah, where activities included such things as shelling walnuts for 5 cents an hour. A favorite playtime activity was spent in the 1932 Lincoln automobile. She graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1957, where she was active in the marching band, girls? glee club, school newspaper staff, and future nurses club. Following high school, she received her nursing degree at St. Luke?s School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, and worked as an RN for many years in the Veterans and Mercy hospitals in Iowa City. In addition to her nursing career, she raised two sons, was an active member in the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman; and was a longtime volunteer with many charitable and civic organizations, including Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, Wellman Heritage Society, Girl Scout Troop leader, Wellman-Scofield Public Library, and the Wellman Baseball Club. She also found joy in sharing her home and life with many foreign exchange students. She enjoyed traveling with her husband by private airplane as licensed pilots, and later in the RV, including group RV trips. She enjoyed bird watching, crafts, museums, music, shelling and the fine arts.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Roger, of St. James City, Florida; two sons, Jeff Borup and wife Pam of Waukee, and Rod Borup and wife Ellen of Los Alamos, New Mexico; four grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Braymen of Ames, Ralph Braymen of Shenandoah, and Allen Braymen of Burns, Oregon; two sisters, Mary Fitz of Ames, and Anna Higgins of Owasso, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Paul Braymen; and three sisters, Kathy Slaymaker, Grace Berry, and Ruth Duke.
