Paul Ellsworth Waters, 103, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 21, at Pleasant Manor Care Center.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Glen Richard officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Beatty Funeral Home. There will be no family visitation.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery or Oakland Mills Conservation.
Mr. Waters was born March 14, 1897, in Lowell, the son of Thomas and Anna Belle McGrew Waters. He married Gladys Morrison on March 20, 1919, in Salem. He attended Howe?s Academy in Mt. Pleasant, was a lifelong farmer and was a member of Mt. Union United Methodist Church.
He was a former board member and secretary of the Henry County Credit Union, a past president of the Mt. Union school board, and a past president of the Linwood school board.
He also worked as a substitute rural letter carrier and was a member of the rural letter carrier association. He was a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge #1003 where he served as past governor. He was a 50 year member and past master of the New London Masonic Lodge #28.
Survivors include a son, Dale Waters of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Mary Belle Walker of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Betty Inglebright of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Unice Kayser of Albuquerque, N.M.; 14 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark and Max Waters; his parents; his wife; a daughter, Dorothy Siberts Haist; four sisters, Mary Raimiller, Mildred Lanz, Bessie Brown, and Ruth Waters; and an infant sister.
