KALONA ? Paul Howard Miller, 82, of Kalona, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 30, at the First Mennonite Church in Iowa City, where a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Pastors Bob and Mag Richer-Smith will officiate, and a fellowship meal will follow the service. A memorial fund has been established for First Mennonite Church, Pleasantview Home, and Iowa City Hospice. Beatty Peterseim Funeral Service in Kalona is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Miller was born June 17, 1932, in Kalona, the son of Joas and Magdalena (Ropp) Miller. He married Ida Fern Miller on June 21, 1953, at the Fairview Church in Kalona.
He attended school in the Kalona area. He served in 1W service in Kansas City and in Des Moines. He was a mason and also farmed and was a woodworker. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Iowa City and the Bricklayer?s Union. He enjoyed creating woodworking projects for his family members, spending time with his grandchildren, watching Iowa football, and reading books about history and the ocean.
Surviving are his wife, Ida Fern, of Kalona; five children, Nathan Miller and wife Diann of San Antonio, Texas, Leonard Miller and wife Laura of Homer, Alaska, Mary Beth Sammons and husband Marvin of Riverside, Merrill Miller and wife Cindy of Broadway, Va., and Regina Miller-Maennche and husband Michael of Lone Tree; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five siblings, Richard Miller and wife Martha of Kalona, Bernice Miller of Kalona, Vesta Neale of Wellman, Mary Jane Baker of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., and Ann Miller of Harrisonburg, Va.; one sister-in-law, Ruby Miller of Kalona; and two brothers-in-law, Ed Yoder of Kalona, and Levi Miller and wife Arlene of Albuquerque, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lydia Miller, Fannie A. Miller, and Esther Yoder; one brother, Alvin Miller; and four brothers-in-law, Wayne Miller, Don Neale, Leroy Baker, and Dan Miller.
