Paul Thomas Burns, 88, of Danville, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Revs. Patrick J. Hilgendorf and Nick J. Adam, celebrants. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery with military rites, Dean King, commander. Visitation will begin after noon today at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be recited today at 7:30 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials have been established to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, a food pantry .
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Paulette Cahill of Burlington, Debbie Pratt and her fiancé, Kevin Rice, of Sperry, and Connie Burns of Danville; a son, Gary and his wife Julie Burns of Baldwin, Wis.; a sister, Marguerite Mertens of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Tom Burns of Carlsbad, N.M.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Burns of Willis, Texas; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Burns of Mt. Pleasant; a brother-in-law, Dick Canella of Fort Madison; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karen Burns; a son, Jim Burns; a sister, Kathleen Canella; and a brother, Bob Burns.
