Pauline Eloise Trout, 103, was born on June 22, 1917, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, she died Tuesday, August 11, 2020. She is the daughter of Floyd and Miriam Edwards. Pauline attended Batavia High School and married William E. Trout on February 16th, 1935, in Davenport, Iowa.
Pauline and Bill moved to Fairfield, Iowa, in 1938 where they raised their children Gary E. Trout and Cynthia A. Trout (Vaske).
Pauline worked in the gift department at Martin Drug Store in Fairfield, Iowa, for 50 years. She was an avid bridge player and member of the historic, McElhinny House in Fairfield. Pauline and Barbara Smith won the Fairfield Bridge Tournaments year after year. Pauline and Bill were members of the First Christian Church in Fairfield. Pauline and Bill traveled extensively before Bill passed away on June 11, 1998, after 63 years of marriage.
Pauline moved to Iowa City, Iowa, in August of 2005. She volunteered at the Lutheran Church and belonged to the Elks Bridge Club.
Pauline is survived by her two children and their spouses, Gary Trout and Jean Warner and Cynthia and Rico Vaske. Her grandchildren include Rick Trout, Tina Devery and Chad Emerson. G.G. has six great grandchildren, Sara Trout, Zackery and Justin Trout, and Jack, Kiley and Luke Devery.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maxine Bates and Francis Schaffer; and her husband, Bill Trout.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled at 9 am to 11 am Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Home, 2720 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City, Iowa. The burial service will follow at 3 pm at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa. Pauline's service will be livestreamed through Facebook.
