Pauline Mae Jarrard, 88,

of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, April 6, 2020, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa, following

a battle with cancer. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. Memorial services will be held at a later date with interment at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church. Pauline was born May 8, 1931, in Mediapolis, Iowa, the daughter of Verner and Violet (Gustafson) Amenell. She graduated from Huron High School in Oakville, Iowa, and later graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington, Iowa. Pauline was united in marriage to Edward Jarrard on Oct. 23, 1955, in Mediapolis, Iowa.

Pauline had lived in Washington County since 1955. She worked at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City before her marriage and later was a registered nurse at the Washington Medical Clinic, retiring in 1996.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington, where she served on several committees. She was a member of United Methodist Women, International Flying Farmers, Fortnightly and was a past Sunday school teacher and 4-H leader. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. Pauline enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Jarrard of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Diane McKenzie and husband Bill of Madison, Wis.; daughter, Carol Enfield and husband Doug of Crawfordsville, Iowa; son, Brian Jarrard and wife Ly of Torrance, Calif.; son, Andy Jarrard and wife Pam of Solon, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Katie, Abbie, Rachel, Rebecca, Regan, Brenden and Leona; brother, Richard Amenell and wife Joyce of Spokane, Wash.; two brothers-in-law, Sandy Hedges and Keith Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Verner Eugene Amenell; and two sisters, Karen Hedges and Judy Thomas.
