PEGGY LOUISE WATSON BRODRICK
(NEE SCHMIDT) ROGERS
Springfield, Mo.
Philanthropist, fashionista, and avid reader, Peggy
Louise Watson Brodrick (nee Schmidt) Rogers passed
away on April 1, 2022, at her residence in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 95. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, IA. Memorials in Peggy's name may be made to the Fairfield Public Library and Noah's Ark Animal Foundation in Fairfield. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Born March 25, 1927, in Holcomb, Missouri, Peggy was the daughter of Phelix Oscar Watson and Iva Belle (Elliott) Watson. After her parents died when she was 2-years-old, her aunt Mary Jeanette (Elliott) Brodrick and husband William adopted Peggy in 1930. She moved to Thorold, Ontario, Canada, where her adopted father's company, Brodrick Brothers Construction, was a subcontractor building the Welland Canal. Peggy lived and went to school in Thorold until 1938 when Brodrick Brothers completed their portion of the canal work and the family moved to Villisca, Iowa, where she completed high school in 1944.
A member of Alpha Chi Omega, Peggy graduated from the University of Iowa in 1949. She married Arno Jack Schmidt that same year and they had three children. In 1972 Peggy married Dr. Benjamin F. Rogers; they resided in Fairfield, Iowa, for many years.
Whip-smart, hilarious, Peggy loved watching Jeopardy! and spending time with her family. She was a Junior Master in the American Contract Bridge League, a member of Eastern Star, the American Association of University Women, the Panhellenic Society, the Fairfield Women's Club, a 4-H advisor, Girl Scout Leader, and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, besides enjoying golf, the ocean, collecting seashells and wintering in Florida.
She is survived by her children, Karl Brodrick Schmidt (Janice), Susan Jayne Schmidt-McDowell (Richard) and Sara Ann Schmidt-Cox (Steven); and grandchildren Kari Bobst, Matthew Schmidt and Caleb Schmidt (Allison).
