Phil Lynn Rodgers was born on August 24,1959, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Charles Douglas and Norma Elaine (Herdicka) Rodgers. He graduated from Deep River-Millersburg High School in 1978. After graduation Phil worked at the Landmark restaurant as a cook and was a welder at Kinze Manufacturing. He worked his way up from a welder to fork truck driver and finally a red shirt lead man until 2008, when he became disabled.
It was at the Landmark where he met the love of his life of 43 years, Kristy Goben. They were married on August 14, 1982, at Fundamental Gospel church in rural Williamsburg.
Phil was a lifelong resident of Millersburg and Iowa county. He was a volunteer fireman for the Millersburg Fire Department and was an Iowa county weather spotter until the early 2000s. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church near North English. He served as Sunday school superintendent and head usher for many years. Phil was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan!! Always keeping up on the Iowa football and basketball programs!! He loved to fish and spend time with his girls enjoying their activities. He was loved by all. He always had a smile on his face and was happy. He really enjoyed the Kinze picnic days when he would drive the little wagons around. He loved seeing the kids smile and how everyone was having a great time. Phil passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 66 years.
Survivors include his wife, Kristy Rodgers of Millersburg; two daughters, Christin Rodgers of Millersburg and Tiffany Rodgers of Iowa City and two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Rodgers and Mindy Dalbom, as well as 4 nephews and 3 nieces.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Meagan Rodgers, his parents, an infant sister Linda Rodgers, brothers Chuck Rodgers, Jonathan Rodgers, a sister Susan McCleary-Bain and a brother-in-law Greg McCleary.
Celebration of life service was held 10:30 am on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial is at the Millersburg Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, December 28, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church, Millersburg Fire Department or QRS. Messages and tributes may be directed to www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
