Philip G. “Phil” Guy, 67, of Brighton passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025, at his home. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church in Washington. The mass will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 4 – 7 PM at St. James Catholic Church, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Following the mass his body will be cremated and inurned on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Sandy Hook Cemetery near Brighton.
A memorial fund has been established for Farm Rescue and Compassus Hospice of Washington. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Phil was born January 1, 1958, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Lathol Allen and Joyce Ann (Benda) Guy. He graduated from Washington High School and farmed in the Brighton and Washington area. On April 3, 2025, he was united in marriage to his longtime companion, Toni Horning. Phil was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Washington Co. Pork Producers, NRA, Washington Co. Farm Bureau, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the motorcycle group ABATE. He enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle, farming, fishing, and spending time with his friends.
Survivors include his wife Toni Guy of Brighton; his daughter Bailey Schooley of Altoona, sister Denise Guy-Himes of Central City; and one niece and two nephews.
Preceding Phil in death were his parents, his sister Brenda Deutsch in 2003, and brother, Bruce Guy in 2018.
