Phil was born Nov. 12, 1955, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Walter G. and Jeane (Stout) Rich. He graduated from WACO High School in 1974. Phil was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Roth on Aug. 23, 1974, in Washington. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Washington. Phil was a third generation farmer who spent his life pioneering conservation and sustainability practices to ensure the viability of the family farm for future generations. You could find Phil smiling from ear to ear when a grandchild was working alongside him or riding with him in the combine.
Phil enjoyed playing basketball in his youth, coaching his children's athletic teams, camping, traveling, motorcycle riding and playing pickleball. He especially enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona, where he and Jacque developed many special friendships. When he wasn't working on the farm, he could be found attending his children's and grandchildren's' many activities. Phil never met a stranger. He could talk to anyone about anything, especially the weather. Above all else he was a great Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son and Brother.
Phil is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn of Crawfordsville; children, Neil (Kori) Rich of Crawfordsville, Stephanie (Tony) Dacey of St. Louis, Mo., and Darin (Diana) Rich of Washington; and daughter-in-law, Darcy Rich of Williamsburg; mother, Jeane Fry; and mother-in-lawm Jean Roth of Washington; nine grandchildren, Samuel, Carly, Grady, Charlie, Noah, Isaac, Dalton, Dexter Rich and James Dacey; brother, Steve (Jerilyn) Rich,; brothers-in-law, Emery Gingerich, Bill Sebok, Jason Roth and Gordy McAlpin; and sisters-in-law, Laurie Roth, Joni McAlpin and Riella Rich; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and an uncle.
Phil was preceded in death by his father, Walter; son, Perry; father-in-law, Vernon Roth; two brothers, Wes Rich and Kenneth (Claire) Rich; two sisters, Marti Sebok and Jane Gingerich; nephew, John Robert Rich; and niece, Lori Rich.
