Phillip W. Marshall
Phillip W. Marshall, 99, of Winfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, in Rogers, Minn.
His body has been cremated. A memorial service and inurnment will be held over the Memorial Day weekend, and inurnment will be in Winfield during the spring. The Cremation Society of Minnesota assisted with arrangements.
He was born Nov. 2, 1908 in Swedesburg, the son of James and Adeline Conrad Marshall. On Jan. 29, 1936 he married Shasta Spangler of Winfield.
A graduate of Olds High School, he worked for a time in Chicago after attending business school, then returned to Winfield to help out at home. He helped build the original Highway 218 from Mt. Pleasant to Crawfordsville. He also farmed in the Winfield area, and worked in town at the elevator and lumber yard both before and after he retired from farming. He was active in the Lions Club and First Presbyterian Church of Winfield.
He is survived by two daughters, Ellie Tompkins and her husband Lennie of Cedar Falls and Barb Longnecker and her husband Denny of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and his son, Phil Marshall, Jr. and his wife Norma of Altus, Okla.; one sister, Lorna; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
His parents, wife, sisters Thelma, Blanche, Lucille, Inez and Doris, and brothers Gilbert, George and James preceded him in death.
