Phyllis L. Hagensick, 86, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, July 6, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospital.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2020, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Friday, July 17th, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Phyllis was born August 1, 1933, in Oto, Iowa the daughter of John R. and Vera (Smith) Willmott. She attended school in Oto, Iowa, where she graduated from Oto High School. Phyllis later graduated from Upper Iowa University. She was united in marriage to Duane Lee Hagensick on August 18, 1956, at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown, Iowa.
Phyllis taught school in Blairstown, Iowa, before moving to Washington, Iowa, in 1961, where she began teaching Junior High Physical Education for the Washington Community School District. She officiated volleyball with her husband Duane for many years.
She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington where she served in many capacities. Phyllis was a member of the WEA, ISEA, NEA and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and season ticket holder for 43 years, and was also a Chicago Cubs fan.
She is survived by one son, Greg Hagensick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandchildren, Katie Novak and husband AJ of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Trisha Hagensick of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Tyler Hagensick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother, Gene Willmott of Sioux City, Iowa; niece, Stacey Willmott of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and nephew, Scott Willmott of Sioux City, Iowa.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane, in 2015; and sister-in-law, Joan Willmott.
